I recently reset the computer and it may have shut off before finishing. I moved to another town and when I tried to boot the computer I get two messages : (1) OSD Menu Lockout, (2) PC mode,PC going to sleep. When I turn it on the screen is black.

Hi @8432,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your computer might be encountering a boot issue due to an incomplete reset or a hardware/software conflict. Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and potentially resolve these issues:
1. Power Cycle the Computer
Turn Off the Computer:
- Press and hold the power button until the computer completely shuts down.
Disconnect Power:
- Unplug the power cord from the computer. If it's a laptop, also remove the battery if it's removable.
Wait and Reconnect:
- Wait for about 30 seconds to a minute. Reconnect the power cord and, if applicable, reinsert the battery.
Turn On the Computer:
- Press the power button to turn the computer back on.
2. Check for External Peripherals
Disconnect All External Devices:
- Remove all connected peripherals (USB drives, external hard drives, printers, etc.).
Try Booting Again:
- Power on the computer with only the essential components connected (monitor, keyboard, mouse).
3. Check Display and Monitor
Ensure Monitor Connection:
- Verify that the monitor is properly connected to the computer and powered on.
Check Display Input Source:
- Make sure the monitor is set to the correct input source (HDMI, VGA, etc.).
Try a Different Monitor/Cable:
- If possible, connect to a different monitor or use a different cable to rule out display issues.
4. Access BIOS/UEFI Settings
Turn On and Enter BIOS/UEFI:
- Restart the computer and immediately press the BIOS access key (usually F2, F10, F12, Esc, or Del) as soon as you see the initial startup screen.
Check Boot Order:
- Ensure that the hard drive or SSD where your operating system is installed is set as the primary boot device.
Reset BIOS Settings:
- If you can access BIOS/UEFI, look for an option to Reset to Default Settings or Load Optimal Defaults. Save the changes and exit.
5. Perform a Hard Reset
Turn Off the Computer:
- Power off the computer completely.
Power On and Immediately Press Safe Mode Key:
- As you power on the computer, repeatedly press the F8, Shift + F8, or Shift key to try and enter Safe Mode.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
