HP Pavilion Slimline s5-1224 Desktop PC

This desktop has been in our basement for a couple of years, but was working when we bought  replacement for it.  We were hoping to upgrade it to Win 10 for our grandson, but when I hooked it back up, it powers on, but nothing displays on the screen. Is there any hope for it?

Hi

Your PC is about 12 years old. Sounds like a hardware issue given the amount of time spent in a possible cold, damp, and dusty basement. Hardware failure on a 12 year old PC due to age is also not uncommon,

Remove the side panel and clean the components using a DustBuster or compressed air. Reseat all motherboard connections.  Reseat the RAM, and discrete graphics card if applicable. Check for motherboard damage.

Assuming you are connecting the PC to a good monitor using a good data cable suggests you have a bad piece of hardware ranging from any component connected to the motherboard up to the motherboard itself.

Have a local PC tech check this out if you want to spend the money. You could troubleshoot components but it takes time and good replacement components which can cost more money versus paying a local tech diagnostic fee.

I wish I could tell you what has failed but this is not possible in any Forum.
