MY desktop PC is roughly 12-18 months (purchased brand new). Recently, when starting up the PC for the first time of the day (i.e. in the morning), the computer screen will freeze on the Windows icon. The keyboard locks up, etc...... This symptom happens about once in every 10 startups. When it happens, the only remedy is to manually hit the power button, turn the PC off, then restart and hit ESC. Next, I hit "enter" and the system boots up normally. There are no signs of deficiency thereafter. The PC runs fine and shuts down quickly on command. I contacted MS support and scans were run, but nothing out of the ordinary showed up. As far as updates, the PC is set to automatically stay up to date with Windows. Attached are images to further illustrate this description. I would be very appreciative if anyone with tech experience can aid in further diagnosing this issue and offering a step by step solution.
Thank you!Freeze point during startup.
Successful startup view.
System info / about.
Pressing ESC on startup then enter is the current method to workaround the issue.

HP is removing cloud recovery for system over 5 years old.
The actual wording is a limited time after the warranty expires
You may want to get a copy of the cloud recovery before it is too late.
Cloud recovery provides all the custom HP drivers.
Go to the below site and enter your product ID including the 3 characters after the # character
You have cloud recovery and you can restore your system using a 32gb flash.
It may take an hour or more to create the recovery USB.

I see you ran the F2 diagnostics. There are update diagnostics here.
HP releases newer UEFI diagnostics periodically. When you select F2 during boot you are requesting UEFI diagnostics. There is an updated diagnostics package Click Here Look for the phrase 'issues outside the OS', Expand the'+'symbol and click the DOWNLOAD button. The version of the UEFI diagnostics is shown at the left of that DOWNLOAD button. When you press F2 to run diagnostics please ensure the version is the new one. |
The circling dots usually indicate a problem with windows startup.
Please run the system files checker. I assume you can still boot into windows.,
SFC and DISM are both tools that scan and repair corrupted system files. However, SFC uses a cached version of the files, while DISM uses the internet to download and fix the files.
Try the SFC first and if that gives a message that it cannot fix the problem then try the DISM tool.
