I recently tried a BIOS update since my fans were suddenly extremely loud and it was recommended that I update it. However while I was in another room I heard my pc give a loud beep and was wondering what happened. Now whenever I turn on my pc I get this loud beep noise for a second after turning my pc on. Sometimes instantly after pressing the power sometimes a second or two later. How can I fix my pc so it functions again?

Hi @job32

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

Based on your description, the issue started after attempting a BIOS update, and the system now emits a loud beep during startup and fails to boot normally. A startup beep on HP desktops typically indicates that the system detected a hardware or firmware issue during POST (Power-On Self-Test). A BIOS update interruption or corruption can also trigger startup beep codes and boot failures.

Perform a Power Reset

  • Turn off the PC.
  • Disconnect the power cord and all non-essential peripherals.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect power and attempt to start the PC again.

Identify the Beep Pattern

  • Does the beep occur once only, or does it repeat?
  • Are there any blinking power LEDs (white/red)?
  • Count the number of beeps and note whether there is a repeating pattern. HP diagnostic beep codes can help isolate BIOS, memory, processor, graphics, or motherboard issues.

Attempt BIOS Recovery

  • Power off the system.
  • Press and hold Windows + B and then press the Power button for 2-3 seconds.
  • Release the Power button while continuing to hold Windows + B until the BIOS recovery screen appears.
  • If available, allow the BIOS recovery process to complete.

Check for Display Output

  • Verify whether the HP logo appears.
  • Check if you can access the Startup Menu using Esc during startup.

Please provide the following information:

  1. Is the beep a single beep or a repeating beep pattern?
  2. Does the computer display the HP logo or any error message?
  3. Are any power LEDs blinking (white/red), and if so, how many times?
  4. Was the BIOS update completed successfully before the first crash occurred?
  5. Can you access the Startup Menu (Esc) or BIOS Setup (F10)?
