Hi. At wits end. Bought a used laptop that had its ssd formatted. Installed windows 10. Works for a day then it comes up (during use not while booting up) with a DeviceFreeze-17659. When trying to boot up again it starts to boot windows then goes to a white screen which seems to be a hp thing not windows problem. Reinstalling windows works for about 24-48 hrs before this comes back. Tried reinstalling several times. I hope someone can help. Google was no help on this. I also replaced ssd. Been through bios but don't really see anything usefull there

Same thing for me.
To add some troubleshooting steps to this I have
Cleared the TPM multiple times
Rebuilt the machine completely a couple of times.
When the machine is off the network, after a fresh install, it will not lock up and continue to work. But putting it back on the network and downloading updates will cause the machine to generate this error.
The device was encrypted with bitlocker before generating this issue.
When rebuilt I tried to enable bitlocker before putting it on the network in an attempt to resolve this issue. TPM module would not allow for the drive to be bitlockered. However TPM seems to be working as I can encrypt external devices.
Worried that this problem might expand to the rest of the machines on the network

Just an update from my end. Apparently this might be some device management tool. My machine was previously managed by another IT provided so I am trying to contact them to release the machine for me.
I will update if I get to the bottom of it

Thanks for your input. I had since tried bitlocker since my initial post. I still get the same thing happening.
Reinstalled windows yesterday. I decided to try installing hp software stuff onto it straight away so i can download correct bios update and drivers etc. And while that was installing it went into devicefreeze. Personally I don't think anymore that encryption will be the problem. I think it's just going to be the fault description coming up for some totally unrelated peice of hardware failure like a battery charge failure.

Hi,
Update for you. This machine was managed by a previous IT company and they are using an application called COMPUTRACE.
I am having to contact the previous IT Company to have them release the lock.
Hope this helps
thanks

Thanks. Yeh I just looked in bios. Mine has absolute software. It says active and so far from internet there's no way of getting rid of it. I got my laptop on a bulk goods auction site that sells heaps of these ex gov laptops etc. Mmmmm
