HP Pavilion 590-p0033w

I recently purchesed a refurbished HP ( MPN 690-0067 serial # Edited).  This has a TPM module, windows 11 with an AMD Ryzen 7-1700 + an installed dedicated Graphiics card.  FYI -  Ryzen 7 has no on board GPU.

By mistake I disabled PCIe in bios. I now A  black screen. I Removed CMOS battery & Jumpered CMOS pins & left over night - still blacK screen.  Any other fixes I can try?

Try these steps:

1. Reset BIOS Settings:

You mentioned removing the CMOS battery and jumpering the CMOS pins, which is a good step. If this did not resolve the issue, ensure that you performed the steps correctly:

  • Remove the CMOS Battery
    • Unplug the computer and ensure it is disconnected from the power source.
    • Open the case and locate the CMOS battery on the motherboard.
    • Remove the CMOS battery carefully.
    • Wait for 10-15 minutes before reinserting the battery.
  • Jumper Reset:
    • Locate the CMOS jumper pins on the motherboard, consult the motherboard's documentation for the exact location.
    • Move the jumper to the "reset" position for about 10 seconds, then move it back to its original position.

2. Attempt Blind BIOS Access:

If removing the CMOS battery didn't help, you might be able to access the BIOS blindly:

  • Restart the computer and repeatedly press the BIOS access key (usually F10, F2, Esc, or Del).
  • Try to navigate the BIOS settings without seeing the screen. Attempt to reset BIOS settings to default using keyboard shortcuts (refer to the motherboard manual for specific keys).

3. External GPU Troubleshoot:

Since you've disabled the PCIe, your dedicated GPU is inactive:

  • Remove the dedicated GPU from its slot.
  • Reinstall the GPU correctly ensuring it is seated properly. This sometimes helps if the BIOS reset did not enable the PCIe again.

4. Check for Display Connection:

Ensure the monitor is properly connected to the GPU output, not the motherboard's video output (since the CPU has no onboard GPU). Try a different cable or monitor if available.

5. Use Bootable USB to Reflash BIOS:

If still no luck, consider creating a bootable USB with the latest BIOS update and attempting to reflash:

  • Download the latest BIOS update from the HP website.
  • Create a bootable USB, follow the instruction contained in the downloadable update file.
  • Insert the bootable USB and boot the system. Follow the prompts to update the BIOS.

Hello Kuroi,

 

Thank you very much for sending me sugguestions on how I might resolve my Black Screen since I accidently disabled PCIex16 in the Bios. Of the gaming PC.  Of course the graphics card was the only means to have my monitor and Windows 11 operational.

 

Due to my work schedule It will probably a couple of days before I go at the HP Gaming PC again.  Right now I'm using my 12 year old(?) HP P7-1534 PC with Windows Windows 10.  I'm lucky I have kept this one running.  I'll let you know -eitherway- if your suggwstions will help or not.

Hello Kuroi,

 

I went through every single step you suggested - in fact more than once.  Unfortunately nothing worked.  I appreciate your suggestions so I thank you!  I just don't have the time or patience to do any more on it.  I'm going to make arrangements withe a repair shop & hopefully they'll be able to get that Windows 11 box up and running.

 

Maybe I cooked the motherboard (??!!) I'll let you know what a shop comes up with.
