Hi @YadaUada,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for reporting that. A "disk read error" on your HP desktop usually means the system is having trouble accessing your hard drive during startup. This can be caused by: A loose or failing hard drive, Corrupted boot files, BIOS misconfiguration or Power or cable issues>
Step-by-Step Fix for Disk Read Error
1. Power Cycle Your PC
- Turn off your desktop completely.
- Unplug the power cable.
- Wait 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
2. Check BIOS Settings
- Turn on the PC and immediately press Esc or F10 repeatedly to enter BIOS.
- Go to Boot Options.
- Ensure your hard drive is listed as the first boot device.
- Save and exit.
3. Run HP Diagnostics
If you can access BIOS:
- Go to Diagnostics > Hard Drive Test.
- Run a Quick Test and then an Extended Test.

4. Use Windows Recovery Tools
If you have a Windows 11 recovery USB:
- Boot from the USB.
- Go to Advanced Options > Command Prompt.
- Run: chkdsk C: /f /r
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd
I hope this helps.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
