  • Booted to an error:

BootDevice Not Found
Please install an operating system on your hard disk.

Hard Disk - (3F0)

F2 System Diagnostics

For more information...

  • So I pressed F2:

HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI

Version 1.6.1.0 BIOS

For more info...

  • So I ran the  Hard Drive Check - Quick Check. Then quickly got this:

SMART Check : NOT INSTALLED

Short DST : NOT INSTALLED

For more info...

  • Next, I used the Win10 USB to find:
  1. System Info does show a 500GB drive is "seen"
  2. DISKPART list disk only shows the 16GB RamDrive that the Windows 10 USB creates.

So the drive is visible to the System Info list, but is invisible to the Windows DISKPART command.

Note: This was set to boot in Legacy mode, not UEFI.

Suggestions (other than "get the latest system diagnostics") will be appreciated.

Yes, according to chapter 1, page 2 of the service manual a 128 GB 2.5" SSD should work fine.

What model processor does your PC come with?

If it has an Intel 11th > 13th gen core processor you need to load the Intel storage controller drivers so Windows can find the drive during the installation process.

If it does not, most likely the drive is completely unusable and you would need to replace it.

SMART Check : NOT INSTALLED

Short DST : NOT INSTALLED

Are normally the errors you get when a drive can't even be tested.

My HP ZBook 15 G2 has a 4th Gen Intel processor. Startup screen > System Info shows:

Intel Core i7-4810MQ

Re. Replacement

Yes, sadly. It is equally inaccessible when wired as an external drive & connected by USB to a working Windows-11 box. I guess it's toast.

A simple 128 GB SSD should work fine as a replacement for Win-10 install. Correct?
