Hi, Joel:

You need to copy all of the files in that folder to the CD, not just the J01_0228.BIN file, and instead of the usb drive select the CD option and then the rest (File / Flash System ROM).

Just the 7 files in the DOS Flash folder, right?

That is correct.

OK, I just tried it, but I'm missing where I specify CD as you said. I guess I could format a USB as FAT32 and put the files there, but as long as I have the CD now I'm curious how to get it to work. If I just say Flash System ROM it says bad media or removable media missing. So I guess it assumes a USB stick. Where in there do I specify CD? I must have missed it. Thanks again. - Joel

I've only updated the BIOS that way with the usb flash drive.

When I have done it with the flash drive inserted, there was prompt that asked me to select a USB flash drive or a CD, where I always selected the flash drive.

Then the PC saw the files on the flash drive, and off it went.

OK, when I tried a USB stick it only saw the USB and not both and the CD drive, so maybe something was up with the CD drive. In any case the flashing went just fine as you said. So far so good and the system seems to be restarting every time, but it's a small sample size. In any case I'm at 2.28 now. Thanks for everything. Kudos. - Joel

Anytime, Joel.

Glad to have been of assistance.

OK, here's a disappointing update. I updated PC #2 to 2.28, but it still won't reliably reboot, which was the original problem. After the BIOS flash it still had the embedded security device hidden and AMT disabled, so it retained those settings. I tried turning them both back on, or only 1 on, but it doesn't help matters much. It'll reboot maybe 3 out of 5 times. The other times it still hangs. I guess I could clear CMOS if you think that'll help, but right now I feel like I've got a sinking ship much not much left to throw overboard. Any ideas?

Sorry that the BIOS update didn't help that machine.

I would try resetting the CMOS as a last ditch effort to resolve the issue.

Both of my 8200 Elite CMT's have no issues restarting with BIOS v2.28 installed.

Could the hard drive be faulty?

HP Recommended

I'll clear CMOS at the end of the day. The hard drive? Not likely, since it's a fairly new SSD.
