HP ENVY All-in-One 32-a10xxx
Microsoft Windows 11

With no error messages, my Envy locks up at random times and must be forced to shut down (hold down the power button) and re-booted.  Once while in a video it kept repeating the last one or two seconds of the video, last night during the "sleeping" cycle it locked up and would not come out of sleep.  At other times the screen just freezes for no apparent reason.  This is always accompanied by the fan running on high, but the fan running on high does signal a freeze, it usually slows down to normal (no or very low fan sound) and the keyboard and mouse do not seem to issue any input to the system.  Upon restart I get the "didn't shut down correctly" error with the various checks that entails and completes a normal startup.  However, one time apparently the problem was severe enough to require me to look up my BitLocker encryption recovery key.  After restart there is never any indication that an error happened; I'm updated on all HP and windows systems and driver updates - at least all that have been offered.  This is very disappointing as I've only had this PC is only about 3 months.   Any thoughts/fixes?

Hi,

This PC should be stable if W11 is the HP factory operating system. W11 could be messed up if you updated a HP installed W10 OS to W11.

Heat, corrupt system files, or hardware could cause this issue.

Download HWiNFO portable at this (Link). Run sensor only. Scan though the system info and check all temps.

Check this site (Link) for info on how to check and fix system file corruption.

At an administrative command promtp enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Upon completion of the first command now enter sfc /scannow

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics at system startup. Start the PC. Tap "ESC". Select "F2". Run system tests.

Contact HP for warranty Support if you have a hardware problem or a heat problem.

Regards
