I need some help, please and I I come to this forum because English people are smarter and because they give better answers than just "buy another hard drive". My PC is a HP Pavilion 500-214es Desktop PC, G5P78EA, with Windows 8.1 (64 bit)
My hard drive is fine because my computer opens correctly 1 out of 4 times, the other 3 times appears Smart error 3F1, then appears error 3F0 and the appears "Boot Device Not Found Error or Hard Drive Not Detected", when i do de F2 Diagnostic disk appears "SHORT DST: "NOT INSTALLED", SMART CHECK: "NOT INSTALL", but THEN when I turn down the PC and the turn ON, the PC opens correctly, and then detects the hard drive indeed. The SFC /SCANNNOW say that has encountered some errors, but when I run the CHKDSK /R /F on C:, when the PC in restarting, the CHKDSK ends with the computer opening correctly. Right now i'm on the computer that gives the error. Now i want to post my triest and my BIOS Configuration, some people say that the problem is because of SATA Controller but I don't know what is that and how to configure that.
In my BIOS I have "AHCI" enable and not "Emulacion SATA", is this is correct?:
_______________________
I have UEFI:
I have thi hard Drive:
When i tried to make a "Backup" of my applicatiosn with the microsoft "File History" appears 2 more hard drives, I don't what are they:
_____________________________
My BIOS is not like other BIOS that have "Boot Mode" to choose between "Legacy or UEFI" I only have this about "legacy boot" and "secure boot" in the "secure boot configuration" tab:
and in the "order boot" tab:
I have tried to enable "legacy boot" and disable "secure boot" but error persist (although the computer opens at random without error), I also have tried to disable "legacy boot" and disable "secure boot" and "fast boot" all disabled but error persists (although the computer opens at random without error, is like sometimes the computer detects de hard drive and sometimes not.
In the BIOS boot order, in some tried appears this new "UEFI" thing, ¿is that the hard drive?:
and other times appears, instead appears "windows boot manager":
and usually appears this only:
__________________________________
If I enable "legacy boot" I don't know how to disable UEFI, appears this:
___________________
I want to ask for a solution, please, without having lost all the programs I have installed, because I have a lot of programs and thousand of plugins and brushes and a lot of things. (I have tried to make a Backup following a tutorial but the external hard drive where I saved it, appears with no files, perhaps I did backup well)
I have tried to restore the pc in a Restore to a day 2 weeks ago, but a warning appears that the restore point is corrupted.
First the PC is opening like this (perhaps because of the "fast boot" disabled?)
Then, the 3 errors that appears one after another: 3F1 error, then 3F0 error, and the another error that change if I have enabled legacy boot or not:
then, if I analize the Hard Drive with F2:
the memory can is OK. But the Hard drive is "SMART is not installed":
then I press in "retun" and "quit":
here I press again F2, and the "quit", and then appears the 3 error that changes if I have enabled legacy boot or disabled. I mean, If I have disabled legacy boot, then the 3 error is this:
"Boot Device Not Found Error or Hard Drive Not Detected"
and, if I enable "legacy boot" the 3 error, after the 3F1 error AND 3F0 error, appears this:
and when i try to run HDD Regenerator this happens:
The computer sometimes opens with these errors, and other times it opens correctly as is the case now, that now the computer has been opened correctly and I am writing on it. I know that sometimes the PC detects the hard drive, I know that there will surely be some English person who can give me some help, please
Now, the computer has opened correctly, see, I'm writing in it right now:

You will buy an internal 3.5" SATA hard drive that is at least as big or larger than your current hard drive.
You do not have to buy the same brand of hard drive.
You can purchase recovery disks to reinstall the operating sytem from HP [US - Canada] or from RestoreDisks.com
When checking the cables, they won't be burned, but the cables or connectors might be cracked or not fully inserted into the sockets. Most times new data and power cables are not included with a hard drive, if your old cables look good then you can reuse them.

The 3F1 and 3F0 errors indicate a failing hard drive.
Your BIOS screen shots show that you have a Seagate hard drive. Since you cannot access the DST Test or SMART Test diagnostics you can use the Seagate Seatools program to check your drives health. They have both a 'Seatool for Windows' version that you install and run within Windows and a 'Seatools DOS' bootable version that you can use to boot from a CD.

Hi Y2KEN Professor, after some tries of power on the PC, see the errors, then power off and try to open again the pc, finally my pc has opened correctly nce more, I'm running first the SeaTools for Windows this are the results: The SMART is OK: "SMART pass" in green
But about the ""Short Drive self test" the first check was very slowly and the result was in red: "Fail"
then, I pass the "Short Drive self test" again, and the test was very quickly this time, and the result was different, was green and "DST Pass":
and the info of the Hard Drive is this:
¿What i must do know? fix all? advanced tests? or I must close "SeaTools for WindowsSeaTools for Windows" and go for "Seatools DOS' bootable version"? I have the program ins spanish, but here a capture of what I have in english from youtube

I also want to say, that I opone the HDD Regeneratr in the opened windows(I mean, not ib booteable way) and appears this message:
In my BIOS iI always Have this: in "AHCI" and not in "Emulation SATA" since I bought the computer was always like this:
I must change it to "Emulation SATA"? If I do, will I lose all the programs and plugins I have?

AHCI is the correct setting for a SATA drive.
I suggest you run the Seatools DOS from the bootable disk, I believe you will get more reliable results.
Here is the link to the Seatools DOS Guide.
Run the 'Short Drive Self Test' again. Seagate recommends the 'Long Drive Self Test' if you also want to find and attempt to repair bad sectors. On a 1TB drive that will take a LONG time.
If Seatools fails the drive and displays a 'Seatools Test Code' then the drive is certainly bad.
HDRegenerator is asking you to change to IDE because, according to the HDRegenerator website, it performs best in that mode. But again, AHCI is the correct setting for a SATA drive.
HP recommends that the OS drive be connected to the 'SATA 0' port on the motherboard, although it really shouldn't matter. You should also check that the SATA power and data cables are securely plugged in at the motherboard and drive.
I believe 'SATA emulation' is used when using a SATA drive with an OS that doesn't support
SATA (Windows XP). It will emulate the SATA drive as an IDE drive.

Thank you Y2KEN, i put in the Computer a bootable disk DVD with the Seatools DOS, and at the same time I put a USB bootteable with HDD Regenerator, then I reboot the PC and I press F9, and this appears (appears the Hard Drive too)
Then, I tried to run the Seatools DOS from the bootable disk and this is what happened "No hard disk found", and don't understand why it does not find any Drive, because in the F9 step the computer detected the Hard Driver SATA0, and why the Seatools don't find it?
Then I run the HDD Regenerator from the booteable USB and this is what happened: this time found the Hard Drive, and the HDD Regenerator does not find any bad sector, but i wonder WHY? why it doesn't find any bad sector? because in the SFC /SCANNOW say that i have bad sector I remember, this is the HDD Regenerator in action:
here I press action 1 (scann and repair)
It didn't find any bad sector.
Thjen I exit and reboot the computer and , AGAIN, appears this errors:
Error 3F1, SMART not installed, etc if I press F2
and then, if I reboot again and I press F9 this is what appears:
_____________
thern I try again to run the SeaTools DOS from boot disk but also appears that it doesn't find any drive, why?
N0w the Computer is openend correcty, since 10 o'clock I have tryin powering on and off until it opens correctly, like now:
My questions, please, are:
1) Every time I try to run the SEATOOLS DOS from boot disk, it didn't find any drive, then, ¿perhap I can run the "Seatool for Windows" better, and it will detect the hard drive? what button I must run inside the seatool for windows?
2) When you say: "HP recommends that the OS drive be connected to the 'SATA 0' port on the motherboard, although it really shouldn't matter. You should also check that the SATA power and data cables are securely plugged in at the motherboard and drive." becaose I don't know whic is the motherboard and the cable, can I open the computer and take a photo and then wait that you tell me which cable and where I must plug? The computer has never been physically opened, how can it be moved the cable?
Thank you

You seem to have made some changes in BIOS so I suggest that you return the BIOS to "Default" settings to be sure everything is as it should be and check if that helped. You should see a 'Restore Defaults' entry in BIOS to do this. Here is a link which shows how: Restore BIOS defaults
Reboot the computer to see if this helped.
Check in BIOS that your Hard Drive is detected and that it is set as the FIRST boot device.
As I suggested earlier you should also check that the data and power cables are fully connected and undamaged. If you only have one hard drive it should be easy to find and trace the data and power cables from the drive back to the motherboard connectors. Shut down and unplug the computer.
If the connectors are fully plugged in and not damaged I suggest you try a different SATA connector on the motherboard. Your board has four SATA connectors. Here's a photo of your motherboard with the connectors highlighted.
As a precaution you should do a complete image backup of your system.
Macrium Reflect is a free program that can create an image backup and also do file and folder backups.

Thank you Y2KEN, I have pass the SeaTools for Windows large, in green letters, i mean, in good results. On the other hand, when I run the SeaTools DOS un boot disk, it does not detect any drive r(any hard drive).
Today I have read your message, I open the computer, and I see that the connector of the Hard Drive are ok (how do I know if them are wrong?) then I see the 4 SATA connector on the motherboard as your picture (thanks) and I unplug the SATA 0 and I plug into the other free SATA Connector called "SATA 1". I also unplug the SATA2 and plug again there (it is the CD/DVD right?)
I also clean the computer dust.
I open the computer and still appearing the error.
Thinking into another solution, why in the SFC /Scannnow i have error but when I pass the SEATOOLS and the HDD Regenerator doesn't appear nothing bad? there is some software to fix the hard drive errors please?

There is a BIOS update available for your system but it does not specifically address your problem.
You can try updating your BIOS to the newest version 80.22 Revision A
Here's the BIOS download link for HP Pavilion 500-214es Windows 8.1 64bit
If the BIOS update does not help then I must believe the hard drive is faulty.
You should back up your hard drive and replace it.
11-22-2016 08:30 AM
But before say that the hard drive is faulty, perhaps restoring all at the date of the purchase, that will fix the problem?
I bought the computer in May 2014, how can a hard drive become faulty becose yes? I never moved the computer. Perhaps because of the power cuts of electricity? or there most be another reason?
