HP EliteBook 840 G5
Linux

My HP EliteBook 840 G5 does not automatically detect the external hard drive on startup unless I use the F9 boot menu.

I want to set up a dual boot system with Windows on the internal drive and Linux on an external USB drive.

GRUB is used to boot into the desired OS. The external USB drive is not detected in the normal boot sequence, but it is detected when I use the F9 boot menu and choose the same UEFI entry.

Why is this happening?

You should deactivate 'Fast boot' options in the BIOS.
