Hi Paul, fortunately we had a positive outcome! I tried the hard drive in the freezer (for 24 hours) trick (this actually allowed me to recover the hard drive information years ago on another computer) to no avail. Before we tried the other recovery option, we purchased a new computer (as the old one had been running Windows 10 and was very slow) and in the process of setting it up, the system asked if we wanted to restore old data from the old computer. It then proceeded to download all our old photos, files, documents, etc! I guess all this had been stored on the cloud. Now we'll make sure to back things up! Just wanted to pass this along to you....
