Today I got a system message of an update to the System Firmware but when it executed it seemed to have corrupted the BIOS. I now cannot boot or get any POST messages at all. I downloaded the firmware and made up a USB as per the download creation screen. When I restart the system it does not install the new BIOS.The system is simply dead in the water.
Is there some other way of reinstating the BIOS or is there some decent instruction on how to recover from his mess created by a FIRMWARE update from HP.

Hi
Sorry to hear this.
Curious, was this BIOS update offered by HP or Windows Update?
Check this site https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04126730 for BIOS Recovery options.
It would appear you are in trouble if you can't POST or cannot see a HP splash screen.
Try tapping "ESC" at startup. If possible, select "F9". Select the HP USB BIOS recovery drive from the bootable UEFI device list. Or follow the emergency BIOS recovery feature directions using a USB recovery drive at the above link.
You may have to request factory service https://support.hp.com/us-en/contact/help/desktop if the PC cannot POST and you cannot recover the BIOS using steps at the first link..
