HP Pavilion 20 All in one
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I am not computer savvy so not sure what terms are. The bottom part of my screen where date and time, speakers etc appear frozen. Also my Icons for google, IE, picassa etc are no longer there. I also cannot access the start menu. So it appears anything in this area I cannot click on and get. I've shut down the computer, rebooted router and such, it updates the time but is still frozen. I am able to use my desk top icons to access anything and everything on the internet seems to be working. Not sure when thes started I just noticed that the time had not updated so that is how I knew there was a problem, the google icon and such were there until I shut down the computer. Where they normally appear there is a blue line. Appreciate any help.

Hi,

First we will try to create a new user account to see if the problem also occurs in this account. The fastest way is with powershell. So open a folder, click on file in the left upper corner and then click on the small arrow near open powershell and click on open powershell as administrator.

Type or copy and paste:

net user newname /add

2.JPG

This will add a new user with name newname to the system (you can always change the name later). Next we are going to give this user administrator privileges so we can if necessary change things in our OS.

Type or copy and paste:

Add-LocalGroupMember -Group Administrators -Member newname

Now reboot the computer or change user, you can do this by pressing ALT + F4 after clicking on empty desktop and choosin reboot or change user in the window which appears. Enter with the user newname and see if the desktop has the same problems you are experiencing right now. If yes, let me know. If no, let me know and we can switch you to this account.

Let me know,

David

Hi Likilesh,

Since he has rebooted the computer several times, I do not believe that restarting windows explorer will solve the issue.

Before I do anything I do not use Windows Explorer. I use Google chrome does this make a difference

Hi,

Windows explorer is the file system viewer, when you open folders and files you are using windows explorer. It doesn't make a difference if you use chrome or not. The procedure I described above to create a new account is just to see if the actual account you are using is in some way corrupted. You can always delete the new account you have created when finished.

Let me know,

David

Thanks David for your response. I had tried the other solution someone had given me which worked but then after a while I get that google is not responding and it is same problem, so each time I've had to restart windows explorer. Was going to try your soluction. I opend a new folder then click on file which brings a menu with Powershell on it, but it is not highlighted and nothing happens when i click the small arrow. Suggestions please and thanks again.
