Want to make sure size of my HDD (500 GB) in order to be replaced with the correctly sized SSD.

Hi:

 

The standard mechanical hard drive HP installs in the HP 8300 Elite SFF is 3.5".

 

However, all SSD's are 2.5".

 

So, you will need a 3.5" to 2.5" adapter.

 

I found this one to be the most flexible because it is the size of a 3.5" drive.

 

ORICO 2.5" to 3.5" Hard Drive Adapter Converter Mounting Frame Tray for 7 / 9.5 / 12.5mm 2.5 Inch HD...

 

The 2.5" drive mounts inside the adapter and you plug the SATA and data cables to the adapter.
