I just migrated my OS to my ssd so I could boot faster but whenever I select the SSD as the boot option the HDD no longer shows up in the file explorer. I want to use the HDD for games and storage and such because the SSD is very small. It's plugged in and it was detected when it was set as the boot option but now it isnt? It isn't detected  in Disk Management either. Please help me with this!

Hi,

Will try to give some thoughts on your problem.

A couple of questions first:

1. Did you clone or image the operating system to the new SSD using the existing HDD image?

2. Can you boot to the HDD when the SSD is not present?

3. Have you connected the HDD to a different PC to verify the HDD works? Reformat the HDD when connected to a different PC then try the HDD in this PC again.

Not seeing the old HDD in Disk Management usually means this device is not detected in the BIOS. Maybe you have a bad SATA power or data cable or a faulty SATA port. Or an incorrect connection somewhere.

I see you have two SATA 2.0 and two SATA 30 ports (page 81 per this HP document). Try different ports and try different SATA data cables. Try a different SATA power connection if possible and double check existing connections

Thank you for replying!

1. Yes I did clone it using a migrating tool.

2. Yes I can boot to the HDD as I am using that as of now as it still has the OS on it.

3. No I have not but as I am using it at this moment it works fine.

The bios I believe detects it because im able to boot to it. Would I have to delete the OS from the HDD for it to boot to the SSD? Would I have access to the HDD then? Reply to me when you can!

Thank you.

No - No -No!!!

Try to unplug the HDD first and see what happens if you boot. It might be that you just have the old (HDD) entries in NVRAM.

In BIOS Boot menue (F9) you see either "Windows Boot Manager" or the SSD
