HP 285 G3 Microtower PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This has to be the weirdest issue I've come across.   PC is rock steady during heavy use (gaming etc.) but locks up  once allowed to idle.   However, after a restart it will remain stable  for the rest of the day providing it's not turned off.

Recently the PC died and I was kind of relieved thinking it was a chance to get to the bottom of this issue.  I pretty much worked out it was the MB but instead of buying another HP bought a Lenovo of slightly lower spec - the rational being I could transfer most components over.   This was a great success (no need to reinstall OS) and the Lenovo could be left in an idle state for weeks on end if you wanted.

Soon after I discovered the Lenovo V530-15ARR wouldn't support the Ryzen 7 2700 CPU I'd just ordered but had good reason to think the HP 285 G3 would have had it not died.   I therefore decided to purchase another HP 285 G3.rather than have my new CPU go to waste.   The HP with Ryzen 7 performed like a dream other than one little niggle.

You've probably guessed it -  yes; it has has EXACTLY the same issue as the original G3 and freezes once a day!!!

seems like it is not waking up from sleep.

To disable sleep mode on Windows, you can:
  1. Right click the Start button
  2. Select Power Options
  3. Under Sleep, select the dropdown menu with time options
  4. Choose Never to disable sleep mode

You can also disable sleep mode by going to Settings > System > Power & Sleep and setting the Sleep Options to Never.

To disable hibernation, you can:
  1. Open the Start menu
  2. Search for cmd
  3. Select Continue when prompted by User Account Control
  4. Type powercfg.exe /hibernate off at the command prompt and press Enter

If you do not want to disable sleep then run the enter and sleep report to diagnose the problem.

Many thanks for your reply.  This was one of the firs things I did and unfortunately has no impact on the issue (I have tried it again just to confirm)..

Interestingly, whilst all components were transferred to the Lenovo (All media, memory and CPU)  I deliberately ramped up it's "green" credentials to max with no sign of any lock-up.

I can only consider there is some peculiarity between the OS (as it exists) and some specific HP hardware feature..
