HP 705 G4 Ryzen 7 Bios Update

Hi!

I'm trying to update my BIOS on G4 Ryzen 7. (My main drive is running Cachyos) I've been trying to install the update manually via putting it on a USB and then going to the bios, however, no matter what I do, the BIOS doesn't detect the files (I tried multiple formats to fat32 and other formats, I made sure the file structure is as per instructions in the bios window - so HP/BIOS/NEW) but nothing worked

I tried putting on a USB Hiren's Boot but it just refused to boot it. I even tried putting custom urls into the network update option (I asked chat gpt to give me URL's but each time it said that there's an issue with protocol) Also I tried all of the back USB ports on my PC

So I'm bit stuck, is the only option i've to boot somehow to a windows drive and update that way? Did anyone ever face the same issue as I do? (I know this line of PC's isn't probably made for linux)

HP ED 705 G4 MT AMD Ryzen has several different chassis/motherboard variants and BIOS families, so the BIOS package must match the exact model.

The BIOS package itself is an .exe SoftPaq, and HP's published instructions primarily describe running that package from Window. Then the easiest workaround is indeed to temporarily boot a Windows installation/recovery environment, run the HP SoftPaq, allow it to stage the firmware update, and then remove Windows afterward.

I managed to update the bios after all! It took quite a bit of time but I managed to do it! 

First, here are the things you need to do ->

USB Stick formated to FAT32 (I had a USB to SD card reader with 16gb SD card inserted and it worked as well - I named the USB to FAT32 but I 'm assuming that has no effect on it) 

Bios files  - Once you download your bios files, I installed the exe (I did this on my fiance's windows PC but you could probably do this using wine on linux), then, I went to the folder where it installed and installed HpFirmwareUpdRec64.exe, where I chose the USB (for this again, I used my fiance's PC but you could probably do this using wine)

Once you have everything, ensure that the USB stick is in the back of the PC, not the front, for me it worked in the upper left USB slot (there are 2 slots and under 4 slots, I had it in the top left, but I heard that ideally you want it in the bottom row on the right, so if it won't work you can try that) 

Now! I pressed ESC on boot, and chose the Update firmware option, PC restarted couple of times and I had to boot it once, once I pressed the power button, there were some updates remaining but after that I booted and my bios version was 0.27 - so the latest! I hope I helped someone with this!! 🙂
