HP Compaq 6300 SFF Not recognising greater than 2GB RAM, & that only works in slot 1. this was found after recent W-10 upgrade which caused the OS to fail. OS has been reloaded, Bios has been updated but problem

@jjay0220 -- remove the RAM from slot #1. Move the RAM from slot #2 to slot #1.
Restart your computer, while tapping the ESC keyboard key.
When you see a start-up menu, choose to run the HP Hardware Diagnostic against that stick of RAM.
Pass? Fail?

@jjay0220 -- is this your computer: HP Compaq Pro 6300 Small Form Factor PC Specifications | HP® Customer Support
It lists 4 sockets for RAM, and support for 8 GB per socket.
Is the RAM the original that came with the computer, or some other RAM that you purchased separately?

@jjay0220 -- that is weird, especially if you have a 4GB memory-stick in the "DIMM #1" position.
I think that it is just a coincidence that the Windows Update caused the change in the motherboard's capability to recognize the 4 sticks of RAM.
When you first power-on your computer, immediately press ESC, to see a menu.
Choose either "Enter BIOS Setup" (where you can view the amount of RAM that is detected by the motherboard), or "run HP Hardware Diagnostics" (where it will report the amount of installed RAM, and will run extensive tests against the RAM).
Within Windows, can you launch the "System Restore" app on your computer, to "time-warp" your computer back to a date/time before the update was applied? I doubt that this will solve your issue.
