HP Compaq Elite 8300 Small Form Factor

Hello, smarter people then me

Just have to ask for help  ( reference to persons who knows what they are talking about), PC model is this  HP Compaq Elite 8300 Small Form Factor.

I need a port like this serial port A IO=2E8h ; IRQ=4; for my device(under Linux) unfortunately I can't find such options in my bios.

I have two computers of the same type ;

first       bios verios K01 v2.05   I don't have a port serial port A IO=2E8h ; IRQ=4  I only have access to serial port A IO=3F8h ; IRQ=4

second  bios verios K01 v2.51   I  have all serial port  inkl. A IO=2E8h ; IRQ=4

I have already tried all the settings and all available bios on the hp site to update the first computer unfortunately without success. bios k01 v2,56 v2,99,v2,98v3,02v3,08

will someone be able to help me and tell me how I can activate the port IO=2E8h ; IRQ=4.

I do not know if it is a question of configuration ?

can I find a bios K01 v2.51 somewhere ?

@Janeczka

  • COM1: I/O port 0x3F8, IRQ 4
  • COM2: I/O port 0x2F8, IRQ 3
  • COM3: I/O port 0x3E8, IRQ 4
  • COM4: I/O port 0x2E8, IRQ 3

These are hardware addresses (and relevant IRQ's) that were physically assigned to ISA/VLB I/O controller cards with jumper pins / DIP switches prior to 'Plug 'n Play'.

I've never tried to change the com port address in BIOS. I'm sure if you can, then it'll be an option you can toggle. If you can't, then you'll either need to 'trick' the OS into re-mapping the the hardware address to a software address of 2E8.

Failing that, buy a PCIe serial card with configurable com ports.

BTW - COM4, traditionally, was IRQ 3.

as you say, i need bisos setting from seraill port a (COM4: I / O port 0x2E8, IRQ 3).
my software has port 4 assigned, unfortunately I can't have any trick. I cannot make any changes to the program. I will try with the pci card but I'm interested in why one computer works and the other does not and the difference is only in the biso version.

is it possible to rip the bios?
