HP ENVY Desktop PC TE01-3000i (4M0M1AV)

Hi. After a windows update (not sure what was updated), I found my computer froze in the HP post screen. Sometimes it just shows 1/4 circle frozen. Sometimes it says it is doing a repair but still freezes. I cannot get past this screen. I ran a Windows 10 boot disk from a USB and the "repair" option does not work (says it cannot repair) and I cannot go to a restore point (I guess they were not created). If I go into the command prompt it cannot find my hard drive, almost like it isn't connected. The HP diagnostic software in the bios finds my HD (it is an SSD NVMe) and detects no errors in the hard drive. System memory is detected as well but not specifiall tested yet. I am at a loss as to what to do at this time and I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

It sounds like your HP ENVY Desktop TE01 is experiencing boot issues after a Windows update, possibly due to corruption or a driver conflict. Since your NVMe SSD is detected in BIOS but not in the command prompt from the bootable USB, it's possible that Windows lost access to it due to missing drivers, corrupted boot sectors, or a motherboard setting issue. Here’s a step-by-step troubleshooting guide.

 

Check BIOS Boot Settings

  1. Enter BIOS (press F10 repeatedly at startup).
  2. Verify Boot Order: Ensure your NVMe SSD is listed as a boot device.
  3. Check Storage Mode:
    • Look for an option called SATA Mode / NVMe Mode / Storage Configuration.
    • If it’s set to RAID, try changing it to AHCI.
    • Save changes and restart.

Check If SSD is Detected in Windows Recovery (DISKPART)

  1. Boot from your Windows 10 USB drive.
  2. Select Repair your computerAdvanced OptionsCommand Prompt.
  3. Type the following:

diskpart
list disk
 

  • If your SSD appears but shows as "No Media" or "Offline", type:

select disk X (replace X with the correct disk number)
attributes disk clear readonly
online disk
 

  • If the SSD does not appear, there may be an issue with drivers, the SSD itself, or the motherboard.

Try to Rebuild Boot Configuration

If the SSD is listed but Windows doesn’t boot:

  1. Run These Commands:

bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd
 

  1. Restart and check if the system boots.

Disable Secure Boot & Enable Legacy Boot

  1. Enter BIOS (F10 at startup).
  2. Look for Secure Boot and disable it.
  3. Enable Legacy Boot or CSM (Compatibility Support Module).
  4. Save and exit BIOS, then try booting from the SSD.

Windows Fresh Install (if necessary)

If nothing works:

  1. Backup Data (if possible via another computer).
  2. Boot from the Windows USB installer.
  3. Choose Custom Install.
  4. Delete existing partitions and reinstall Windows.
