HP ENVY Desktop PC TE02-1000i (6L728AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

The PC is showing no power light and is not starting. I have replaced the power lead and there is power to the PC. The fans are not powering up and the PC is effectively dead. No idea how to fix it. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi @Martinmtb,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP ENVY Desktop PC shows no signs of power (no lights or fan activity), the issue typically lies with the power supply, internal connections, or motherboard. Here’s a step-by-step guide to diagnose and resolve the problem:

To assist better:

  • Was there any recent update on the PC?

While you respond to that please try the below steps:

Please try the following Troubleshoots steps.

Step 1

1.    Turn off the Unit.

2.    Disconnect the AC adapter.

3.    Remove any discs from the disc drive.

4.    Remove memory cards from the card reader slot.

5.    Disconnect all nonessential peripheral devices, such as printers, scanners, external hard drives, and USB flash drives.

6.    Disconnect the AC adapter press and hold the power button for approximately 15 seconds.

7.    Reconnect the AC adapter, and then turn on the computer.

Step 2

Turn off the unit and please press and hold the Windows key + letter B key and the power button together for 30 seconds after 30 seconds, 1st release the power button but keep holding the Windows key and B key for ten more seconds and then release these two keys If done correctly, you will see the display flashing once. Please attempt it thrice as this step and Restart the unit

Step3

The unit has to be turned off, Press Win+ V while holding these two keys then Press the Power button, continue to hold all three keys for 30 seconds and then release the Power button first and then release these two keys Please attempt it thrice  and then you may get a Pop-Up CMOS Check and it will restart the unit

Even if you don't get a Pop-up restart the unit manually after 3 attempts.

Restart the unit

1. Verify Power Supply

  • Test the Wall Outlet: Plug another device into the same outlet to confirm it provides power.
  • Check the Power Cable: You’ve replaced it; ensure it’s securely connected to the PC and wall socket.
  • Power Strip or Surge Protector: If used, ensure it’s functioning.

2. Reset the Power

  1. Disconnect the power cable from the PC.
  2. Press and hold the Power Button for 15-20 seconds to drain residual power.
  3. Reconnect the power cable and try turning it on.

3. Inspect External Connections

  • Ensure all external peripherals (e.g., monitors, USB devices) are disconnected, leaving only the power cord.
  • Try a different wall outlet or power strip.

4. Open the PC and Check Internal Components

Safety First: Disconnect power before opening the case.

  1. Power Supply Unit (PSU):
    • Look for the PSU’s LED indicator (if present). If the LED is off, the PSU might be faulty.
    • Use a PSU tester (if available) or replace the PSU to check functionality.
  2. Loose Connections:
    • Ensure the motherboard’s 24-pin and CPU’s 4/8-pin power connectors are firmly attached.
    • Check connections to the power button and other cables.
  3. Hardware Components:
    • Remove and reseat RAM modules.
    • Disconnect the GPU (if any) and hard drives/SSDs temporarily to isolate the problem.

5. Check the Power Button

  • Verify the connection between the power button and the motherboard.
  • Use a screwdriver to short the power switch pins on the motherboard to test if the button itself is faulty.

6. Perform a BIOS/CMOS Reset

  1. Disconnect the power cable.
  2. Locate and remove the CMOS battery on the motherboard.
  3. Wait for 5 minutes, then reinsert the battery.
  4. Reconnect power and try starting the PC.

Thanks Gaya1239, it turned out the problem was a power supply failure which was fixed under warranty.
