Hi,
I am so confused. My computer won't boot since windows 11 did some sort of update (freezes at the HP post screen) but all tests say everything is fine.
So I made a Windows 11 boot disk to be able to fix it, but now I am being told the boot disks cannot work on HP computers because HP does not allow access to the hard drive from a boot disk??
Are HP computers really made such that they prevent simple software fixes and any OS problem?? Is there a different brand of computer that would allow me to fix basic problems?
Everyone says "just run off a boot disk and fix it" but why can't that be done with my HP computer?
Does HP have some utitility to allow it?
Thanks!
Paul

Hi, Paul:
I've never heard of that before.
Your PC has an Intel 12th gen core processor which does require a person to install the Intel storage controller drivers so Windows can find the drive.
That is the case for every PC made by every manufacturer.
So, if you made a plain W11 installation flash drive and booted it up and got to the screen that asks, 'Where do you want to install Windows,' and Windows reports no drives can be found, then you need to install the Intel storage controller drivers.
Unzip and copy all of the files in the folder in the attachment to a USB flash drive.
Have the flash drive and your Windows installation media plugged into USB ports.
Boot from the Windows installation flash drive.
When you get to the screen where no drives can be found, click on the Load driver option, browse to the flash drive with the storage controller drivers on it.
If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.
If Windows still can't find the drive, uncheck the box to include the compatible driver and try any of the ones listed.
Click Next, and Windows should install.
Your other option is to use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will factory reset the drive to its 'out of the box' condition.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility. You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this:
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support
You can download the software from the Microsoft Store:
HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store
Since you have to use the utility on another PC as yours is not working, you will have to enter your PC's product number in the utility's search window so you can proceed to make the recovery media.
Your PC's product number is 319M2AA#ABA
You will not need the Intel storage controller drivers if you use the HP cloud recovery tool as they are already included in the bootable factory image.
