HP ENVY 700-215xt CTO Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I recently acquired this PC today and when I attempted to boot it up with my compatible power cable it would turn on, finds would spin, power light and everything looked like it was working. I had an hdmi cable plugged into the graphics card but nothing waited a while then turned it off and tried the vga output from the motherboard, also nothing. The disc drive functions with the eject button, the power supply's light turns green when plugged in, and I plugged in a keyboard to see if it would detect but no caps lock lights would turn on. My screen works with a known working computer same for my keyboard so it has to be the envy. I reinserted the ram sticks and took out cmos battery and put it back in. I also attempted to reset by unplugging everything and holding power button but still nothing. I am out of ideas to try and do not have the room ot disassemble the machine. Any advice or tips?

Hi @Nikology,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already tried some troubleshooting steps to get your HP ENVY 700-215xt CTO Desktop PC to work, but you're still experiencing issues. Here are a few additional suggestions to consider.

  1. Check the Display Connection: Make sure the HDMI or VGA cable is securely connected to both the graphics card (if using HDMI) and the monitor. Ensure that the monitor is set to the correct input source.

  2. Verify Monitor Power: Ensure that your monitor is powered on and functioning correctly. Test it with another device to confirm that it's working.

  3. Reset BIOS Settings: It's possible that the BIOS settings have been altered. To reset the BIOS to its default settings, you can try clearing the CMOS settings again. Ensure the PC is unplugged when you do this. You might want to leave the CMOS battery out for a few minutes to ensure a full reset.

  4. Check for Loose Cables: Inspect all internal and external cables to make sure they are properly connected. Loose cables can sometimes lead to issues.

  5. Test with Minimal Hardware: If you can, try to disconnect all unnecessary peripherals (e.g., extra USB devices, additional hard drives) and only keep the essentials connected (power, monitor, keyboard, mouse). This will help isolate any potential issues.

  6. Check for Beep Codes: Some motherboards have a speaker that can produce beep codes to indicate hardware issues. If your motherboard has this feature, listen for any beep codes during startup and refer to the motherboard's manual for their meanings.

  7. Inspect for Damage: Examine the motherboard, graphics card, and RAM for any visible signs of damage or loose components.

  8. Test with a Different Power Supply: If possible, test the system with a known-good power supply. A faulty power supply can sometimes cause startup issues.

  9. Update Graphics Drivers: If you can get the system to boot, but you have no display, try booting into Safe Mode and updating the graphics drivers.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
