I’m having trouble when booting my PC, all I’m met with is a black screen. The PC powers on ok and the RGB mouse and keyboard connected to my USB input area at the front of the PC have their lights periodically turn on and off.
What Led to this?
I initially started just wanting to overclock a USB port on my PC and the software instructed me to turn off secure boot. Note that I have successfully turned secure boot off and on before so this wasn’t my first time trying this.
Once secure boot was turned off the computer wouldn’t properly boot, I was in some sort of BIOS loop I think so I had to do a BIOS reset, as mentioned here https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Boot-and-Lockup/Omen-won-t-turn-on-after-bios-update/td-p/6617....
After the reset my PC booted up fine and I began regular use of my PC for a day or so. Then I noticed my PC started randomly turning off while gaming, getting the exact error as in this reddit thread https://www.reddit.com/r/HPOmen/comments/zy3z59/hp_omen_25l_keeps_restarting/
One recommended solution I saw was to do a manual BIOS update using HP support Center. It was following this update where I’m in the current state as mentioned at the start of this post. I tried resetting the CMOS by using the keyboard shortcuts on start up and by removing it for ~5 minutes and putting it back, but both methods did not work.
I think because the devices connected to the USB inputs are periodically having their lights turn off and on indicate it may be a PSU issue? Although the PC itself definitely stays powered on the whole time and because going into BIOS sorta started this whole problem I have a feeling it may not actually be a hardware issue, since things were working fine before.

I was unable to follow exactly what has happened.
Did you run UEFI diagnostics before updating the BIOS?
Can you pass diagnostics now?
On a desktop system, unplug computer. |
Plug back in then ---
This is how to do a hard reset
|
Make sure memory and disk are tested.
If a component fails during the UEFI test then Click here to check warranty
If you can pass diagnostics then go into the BIOS and set defaults on every menu. Be sure that secure boot is enabled. Verify the date and time are correct and save settings before exiting.
If you cannot get into the BIOS nor run UEFI diagnostics are there any blinking LED or beeps?

Let me know what you find out before trying to do any type of BIOS restore.

Thank you for the detailed reply, will definitely give this a go once I get home.
I forgot to also add that when trying to do a BIOS restore to a previous version (holding windows + b on start up) I get 8 beeps from my PC followed by an indefinite black screen. When I attempt to start up my PC normally I get no beep codes or blinking LEDs.

It appears you need to do a bios restore.
According to Google AI quote: " most, if not all, HP Omen motherboards will have a BIOS recovery mechanism, often implemented as a dedicated jumper or button on the board, allowing users to recover the BIOS even if it becomes corrupted; however, to confirm the exact location and functionality, you should always consult the specific motherboard manual for your particular Omen model. "
On my omen shire motherboard the jumper is numbered 5 and 6, identified as "BBR", and is adjacent to the M.2 Wi-Fi. Shorting it while powering up will flash the bios.
Let me know what you find out.

Unfortunately resetting BIOS by shorting the pins did not work for me. After shorting, when I turn the power on and spam F10 nothing happens (same with spamming ESC), still just met with the same black screen.
Was following the shorting instructions as outlined in the following post for reference, tried shorting for both 10+ mins and ~10 seconds.

8 beeps can be a display memory failure. Try an external monitor, tv with HDMI.
Remove the graphics card. Do the beeps go away? If not the problem is probably on the motherboard.
Reset the graphics card and see if it works.
Unless I am mistake, the 25l does not have video on the motherboard. You may want to take it to a shop and let them try a graphics card unless you have a spare one you can try.

Tried both HDMI and resetting the GPU and both didn’t work. Also removing the GPU and starting up still produced the same beeps.
I’m assuming this confirms the issue is with the motherboard? Unless you have any other diagnostics you want me to check I’ll probably just take it to a shop for them to confirm it’s indeed a motherboard issue.
Thanks so much for your help, really appreciate it.
