Hi there @JG366, and welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

I understand how concerning it is when your desktop won’t power on, especially with important data on the hard drive. Let’s walk through some steps to help diagnose and potentially resolve the issue.

Perform a Hard Reset

This helps clear any residual power and reset hardware connections:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the wall and the back of the PC.
  • Unplug all peripherals (USB drives, printers, etc.) except keyboard, mouse, and monitor.
  • Press and hold the power button on the desktop for 15–20 seconds.
  • Reconnect only the power cord and try turning the PC on again.

Check for Beep Codes or LED Blink Patterns

When the fan spins briefly and stops, the system may be trying to report a hardware fault. Look for:

  • Beeping sounds
  • Blinking lights near the power button or on the motherboard

Inspect Power Supply and Internal Connections

If comfortable opening the case:

  • Ensure all cables (especially to the motherboard and hard drive) are securely connected.
  • Check for signs of damage or burnt components.
  • If available, test with a known-good power supply.

CMOS Battery Reset

Sometimes a faulty CMOS battery can prevent startup:

  • Remove the coin-cell battery from the motherboard for 5 minutes.
  • Reinsert it and try powering on again.

Recovering Your Data

If the PC still won’t start, you can recover your data by removing the hard drive and connecting it to another computer:

  1. Remove the hard drive from the TP01-2000a.
  2. Use a SATA-to-USB adapter or external enclosure to connect it to another PC.
  3. Access and back up your files.

If none of the above works, please visit the nearest HP authorized service center, the service team will check and assist you.
