We have an HP TP01-2022 that experiences intermitten freezing.  Here's a summary of it:

Troubleshooting Already Performed (Extensive)

Hardware Stress & Diagnostics

  • Prime95 (CPU stress): Passed

  • FurMark (GPU stress): Passed

  • HP built-in diagnostics (UEFI & Windows): Passed

  • No thermal throttling or overheating observed

Software / OS Elimination

  • Full Windows format and clean installation

  • System left running with minimal software installed

  • Freezing still occurs after clean OS install

Observations

  • No reboot events

  • No blue screen

  • No crash dump generated

  • No consistent Event Viewer errors prior to freeze

Any ideas as to what's going on?  This happened just on the bare hardware that came with the unit: no memory or expansions cards added.  I had a feeling this PC was unstable for a while but now that we want to replace our office's main computer with this one I don't feel comfortable deploying it.  Not sure if HP would be willing to offer us goodwill on this matter, but would appreciate any correspondence or insight in the meantime.

Thank you for your help! 🙂

A BIOS update come out just this last month.

I looked at the release history.  There are a number of updates but I did not see one that speciially mentioned fixing freezes.   Check to see if you have the latest bios for SSID 8906.

You might also enter your exact serial number or product ID to see if your PC has a different SSID and different software

i entered TP01-2022 but the bios I found mentioned TP01-2080 instead of 2022.   This is ok as long as the SSID is the same.

I did run a BIOS update and it appeared to complete, but I'll check again to see if the one you mentioned is a newer version.  And yes, I always use the serial number when accessing updates.  Thanks for the tip, but is there a way to contact HP directly about this?

Got through the BIOS update and the computer hasn't frozen since.  There was a power outage at the office and that is more likely what accounted for the sudden shutdown.  Set BIOS settings to power back on after a power failure.

I did install an aftermarket video card, and now that it's overriding the onboard video, it may have made it more stable if the video was indeed causing the freezing (which I've seen once before).  Let's see how long it lasts.  If anyone else had any results themselves, please post it here.

Thanks.

I have two different GPUs that are used for different things.

On occasion I need to do a GPU reset:

To perform a quick GPU reset on Windows, the magic key combo is Win + Ctrl + Shift + B

you might try that if it freezes again.
