Pavillion Gaming Desktop 690-0010

My computer has been acting weird lately. It powers on and shuts down all on its own, even when I’m not using it. And when I do try to use it, my monitor shows a blank screen and my pc continues to power on and shut off all on its own. The only thing I’ve done different lately is attempted to download a game with high storage, but i don’t know how that could be causing the problem. I’ve tried a hard reset, but it did nothing. Any others suggestion of what to try?

@SauceMan1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • Make sure the game meets the system requirements.
  • Also, if you have downloaded the game from a third-party website, there are possibilities that the computer may be infected by virus/malware. Kindly run a full system scan using an anti-virus program.

Update the BIOS

Install updates using HP Support Assistant

  1. In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
  2. Check for updates.
  3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.

Disable the automatic restart option to view error messages

Errors might occur but not display with Automatic restart enabled. Disable this option to allow the computer to display error messages instead of restarting.

  1. In Windows, search for and open View advanced system settings.

  2. Click Settings in the Startup and Recovery section.

  3. Remove the check mark next to Automatically restart, and then click OK.

Location of the Automatically restart check box

  4. Restart the computer.

If the issue persists, we will have to perform a system restore. Go to Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 10, 😎 for more information.
