HP Pavilion will not boot and keeps restarting

HP Recommended
HP Pavilion desktop
Microsoft Windows Vista

I was using my desktop yesterday and chose the sleep option rather than closing it down fully - I have not used the sleep option on my desktop for a long time. I could not re-awaken the PC. Pressing the power switch there is a very, very brief flash of the orange light, the disk drive lights green for two seconds and the PC powers off. Within a couple of seconds the power light comes on and exactly the same thing happens. It then carries on doing this until I switch off the power supply. I have tried unplugging everything and then reconnecting - exactly the same thing happens. Any ideas how to fix this - it was working fine yesterday?
