Hi, I have a Wave but as internals seem like a notebook I have put it on this board- apologies if it needs to go somewhere else. It does not boot with "Error - No Boot disk has been detected or the disk has failed." It has the operating system on an SSD. Looking at help pages it appears there was a firmware update that I did not know about to prevent them failing. If I run a disk check the SSD is not found. The page says if it has failed to contact HP. HP support pages say out of warranty and do not proceed.
1. Is there a way of updating the SSD firmware to recover it?
2. I have tried to put an operating system on the hard drive so the SSD is not used / needed, but that does not seem to work. Is there an instruction page to be able to do that which I could follow?
3. Is it worth replacing the SSD or more cost effective to buy a new computer and transfer the files?
Any guidance would be gratefully received.
Thanks Rob

Hi:
According to the product specs for your PC, it comes with a 128 GB NVMe SSD and a 2 TB hard drive.

You would have to be in Windows to upgrade the drive's firmware and most likely that is not the problem why the drive failed anyway.
I recommend you replace the M.2 NVMe SSD with a new one.
The WD Blue SN570 should be a decent replacement for you.
You will actually end up with more storage space because WD does not make smaller retail drives.
After you replace the drive, you can use the HP cloud recovery tool and a 32 GB USB flash drive to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.
Here is an info link for how to use the utility.
HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Customer Support
Since you have to use the utility on another PC, you will need to enter your PC's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.
Your PC's product number is: Z7B95EA#ABU

Thank you very much for your speedy response. I have had a look at a video on replacement of the SSD. It seems possible for my level of DIY.
Should it also be possible to have the operating system on the hard drive and leave the faulty SSD in place? I have tried to load Windows on to the HD using a recovery disc and it did not work.
Many thanks, Rob

You're very welcome, Rob.
You could remove the M.2 SSD and use the cloud recovery tool to install Windows on the 2 TB drive, but the PC will probably perform considerably slower having to resort to a mechanical hard drive to run everything.
I think if you leave the M.2 drive installed, you will always get that error.
That is why it is probably better to replace it with a new one.
Cheers,
Paul
