Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have a HP Compaq 6200 Pro  I7  8 g memory  a VGA port and a display port  was connected under VGA  but can't watch

the streaming tv series from my cable channel .They said I need HDMI to do so, so I bought a  adaptor  display port to HDMI

connected my screen with it . I did not have to select the HDMI port it found it automaticly an run ok.I was not satisfied with

the resolution (too small) so i thought    I am going to surf in VGA and watch the TV series under HDMI.

But selecting the VGA port got me this message       HP compaq 6200 entering rescue mode... grub rescue >

so I reselected the HDMI         same message    so now I don't know what to do

Hoping someone will help

My name is michel        thank you

Hi

I suggest an attempt to copy off/backup any data you need before a full blown recovery is done.

The XCOPY command is ancient and works for W7 - W10, I mention this in case you are only able to make the W10 version for data recovery, not installation.

W7 is only downloadable from Microsoft if you have a Licence key that is not an OEM from HP or Dell etc, if it is then Heidoc have W7 versions.

If in doubt please ask.

You may need to change the Secure/Legacy boot option, and the boot sequence also.

This may require another PC. Find and Download your .iso from…
(You will need a NON_OEM key for W7;
W8.x and W10 should activate automagically from their embedded licence key.)

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

For when it’s a NON MS OS ( iOS / Linux ) creating the install media.
www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO

A 3rd party site like…
heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-and-office-iso-download-tool

Expand/Extract/Burn the iso Image onto a DVD/USB as needed.
Microsoft’s Creator Tool will make the required DVD or USB.

Even though it has NO actual HP software/drivers included, you may be able to
XCOPY the C:\Users\* area onto a ‘large’ USB stick, via the Command Prompt.

You’ll need to try various drive letters; D:..-..Z: until it’s matched - could be G; mine’s S:

C:\>XCOPY C:\Users\* S:\ /e /i /h (then files like those 3 listed below get copied over)

C:\Users\desktop.ini
C:\Users\All Users\agent.1509128044.bdinstall.bin
C:\Users\All Users\HP Deskjet 2540 series\Help\flash\zoom.swf

Then you can try System Recovery Options / Advanced Options shown in the screenshots.

NB:- W7 Try running a Startup Repair more than once for a full fix.
NB: - W10 Begin with the Automatic Repair, then Startup Settings etc.

From either the C:\ or the X:\ prompt try the following

cd boot
bootrec /FixMBR
bootrec /FixBoot
bootrec /RebuildBCD

If the above FAILS then please try:-

thank you for the fast reply .I tried many lines of command but was never able to boot on anything,

is it possible that I blew the onboard VGA and the display port by connecting both on the same screen at the same time

( I am using a TV with multiple ports as a screen) the black screen with the grub message

happened when i swithed from HDMI to VGA.

I finally installed a Pcie video card and it worked.
