Hi @CurtW2
Welcome to HP Support Community!
We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while since your original post; while this is rare, we didn't want this post to remain unanswered, so, here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊
Thanks for sharing that — let’s try to bring that dx2400 back to life step by step. Since it’s not starting up, we’ll begin with the basics and work our way up:
🔌 Step 1: Power Reset (Hard Reset)
This clears any residual power and resets hardware states:
- Turn off the PC and unplug the power cable.
- Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cable and try turning it on again.
🧪 Step 2: Check for Signs of Life
- Do fans spin? Any lights or beeps?
- If no signs of power, try a different power cable or wall outlet.
- If fans spin but no display, move to the next step.
🖥️ Step 3: External Display Test
If you suspect a display issue:
- Connect the PC to a different monitor or TV using VGA.
- Make sure the monitor is set to the correct input source.
💾 Step 4: BIOS Access
Try to enter BIOS:
- Power on the PC and immediately tap
Esc
repeatedly. - If a menu appears, press
F10
to enter BIOS setup.
If you can access BIOS, the hardware is likely okay and the issue may be with Windows.
🧰 Step 5: Bootable USB Recovery
If BIOS works but Windows won’t load:
- On another PC, download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.
- Use it to create a bootable USB drive.
- Insert it into the dx2400 and boot from USB (press
Esc
>F9
to select boot device). - Choose Startup Repair or reinstall Windows if needed.
Let me know what the PC is doing when you press the power button — no lights, stuck on logo, or something else — and I’ll guide you from there. We’ll get it sorted!
