OMEN von HP Desktop-PC-870-160nz

Very dear team.

I have been using the computer for many years without any major problems, mainly for video editing work. Now the size of the hard drive has slowly become insufficient, so I have upgraded the hard drives. Previously, an SSD with 250GB and two HDD hard drives with 2TB and 4TB were installed. I migrated the 250GB hard drive to a 1TB SSD. The system SSD (GTP) works without any problems without additional hard drives. Even if I connect a 2TB or 4TB hard drive as normal. Only if I also install a 16 TB HDD in addition to the system SSD do I have significant problems. It doesn't matter which SATA connection you use on the new hard disk. I also checked the battery, it's fine.

If I start the system via the SSD together with the 16TB SATA hard disk, the following error message appears:

Hard Disk Error
Please run the hard Disk Test in System Diagnostics.
Hard Disk n! (n!Fn!) (n! for different digits and numbers, like 3F3, 3F5 ...)
F2 - System Diagnostics
For more Information, please visit:
http://www.hp.com/go/technicenter/startup

After running through the system diagnostics (F2), the system can then be started normally. I have normal read and write access to all hard drives, only when I start up does the annoying error message appear.

The number of the hard disk causing an error "Hard Disk n!" is curiously partly larger than the sum of the built-in hard drives. Since the error only occurs when I connected the 16TB hard drive, I checked all hard drives installed in the computer and the rest of the system using system diagnostics. Both the large 16TB hard drive and the other hard drives are diagnosed as flawless.

I just can't get the system to boot without an error message.
I've already replaced the 16TB hard drive with no success!
I suspect a problem in the BIOS settings.
Can you tell me how to fix the error.

If you disconnect the 16tb Seagate does the system boot ok?

Your system is 6+ years old.  There have been a lot of advances in disk technology, no just disk size increase.

Some possibilities:

Check for seagate firmware update   but update the firmware (if needed) on a different system.  Never update firmware or BIOS on a system the is not working properly.

Internal SATA cables are all the same, IMHO.  You should try another cable just to be sure there is no defect such as a loose or corroded connection.

Install hard drive sentinel and run diagnostics with and without the 16tb drive connected.

I ran across the same problems your having years ago with my HP-z400 and got tired of adding sata and external drives constantly. l made a decision to use network attached storage.  I recommend something like the Synology DS218+  and add your 16tb into it.
