Hard disk not detected

I have a very old pavillion t220i in bangalore, india. Due to sentimental reasons we cannot throw it away. Pl let me know where i should post the specific question

The disc is not detected at the bios level, or you just have an error message while trying to start?
If the hard drive is not detected by the bios, it may be defective.
If there is an error message at startup, it is possible that it is simply a problem with windows, it can depend on the error message!
