Hi @Ju1ce-9nine
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
A Short DST failure usually indicates that your hard drive is failing or has already failed. Since your SMART check passed, it means the drive was functioning well at some point, but now it's encountering serious issues.
Confirm the Failure
- Restart your desktop and enter BIOS/UEFI (usually by pressing F2, F10, or Esc during startup).
- Run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool to verify the failure.
Check Boot Order
- In BIOS, ensure your hard drive is set as the primary boot device.
- If it's missing, the drive may be completely unresponsive.
Attempt Recovery
- If your system prompts for a boot disk, you may need a Windows recovery USB or installation media.
- You can create one using another PC by downloading the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.
Replace the Hard Drive
- If the Short DST failure persists, your hard drive likely needs replacement.
- Install a new SSD or HDD and reinstall Windows.
