Elitedesk 800 G2 DM,
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I have a new Elitedesk G2 DM that I pucheased with the DOS HDD option.

I previously reached out to the forum to learn how to configure the UEFI to allow me to install Win10 Pro on the SATA drive. This worked great I and had a good time learing the proscess. (learned to convert from MBR to GPT)

Now I have removed the SATA Hdd and installed a 1TB WD  (blue) SSD.

I found this video that genericly describes M.2 SSD installation:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No-ct8pQcIg

Very helpful, but the UEFI in the video does not seem to match the menu choices in my new HP machines BiOS.

  • The video suggests that in the BOOT menu I should find a setting: Set to Launch CSM: Dissabled, I cannot however find a CSM reference in the HP menus (legacy support and EUFI are refrenced in two choices) I assumed that no legacy and UEFI would be what I needed
  • Secure boot: the video suggests I should see a selection in this menu for "Other OS" . This sounds fmailair but I cant find the setting
  • The video says I should "clear secure boot keys" I think I got this part correct

I can boot from the MSWin10Pro USB stick and the installer will get me as as far as slecting a drive: No big suprise here, Cant locate the m.2 SSD.

Is there a better resource for configuring UEFI for installing to an M.2 SSD on my machine?

Thank you.

-Dave

OK here is my current strategy:

The WIn10 installer has the option, after not finding any drives on the system, of installing a driver.

I see HP has this storage driver available:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-elitedesk-800-g2-small-form-factor-pc/7633277

  • This package provides the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver for supported models running supported operating systems.

Ill put this on a USB stick and see if MS accepts it as a driver to install when prompted.

Feels a little like a long shot. Will report back later.

Not suprised: windows installer did not recognise the HP patch as driver.

Next I will try this advise from the MS support pages:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-windows_install/installing-windows-10-t...

Try the following

Boot from the Windows 10 install media

Click Install Now

Accept License Agreement

When the option is displayed to select an installation type, click (Custom Advanced)

Press Shift + F10 on your keyboard

type the following commands

DISKPART

Hit Enter

list volume

Next you will select the volume where you would like to install Windows 7

Type: select disk #

# represents the number the volume

Type: clean

convert mbr

create partition primary

active

format quick fs=ntfs

exit

exit

Try starting setup again.

But fisrt, Im going outside to take a few pictures of the garden and eat some leftover kung poa beef.
