Microsoft Windows 11

I need to enable secure boot for gaming but my graphics card only displays something when i have legacy enabled and secure boot disabled. If I then enable secure boot and disable legacy i get no display and have to take my gpu out to use the integrated graphics so i can revert bios so i can use my graphics card. I looked in msinfo32 and my pc still boots with uefi though even with the graphics card installed. Can someone please tell me a work around for this. Thanks.

Older BIOS version Secure Boot factory key settings used to be very picky when a discrete graphics card was installed in the MB.

The system used to see the graphics card firmware as untrusted. So we used to have to disable Secure Boot and enable Legacy support.

Is your PC running the latest HP BIOS update? A newer BIOS version might fix the Secure Boot on/video out problem when using a discrete graphics card.

I don't have a recent HP PC to see if one can load custom Secure Boot keys. But, in the past, I had been enrolling custom keys on retail MBs to get around the Secure Boot/discrete graphics card roadblock.

And, it appears many MB OEMs have now added BIOS Secure Boot support for add-in graphics cards. The system will POST using factory keys. No Secure boot modifications are required when installing a discrete graphics card in the MB.

Hi @Bill_To

Thank you for responding so quickly. I had the 2.58 2022 bios version and now upgraded to the latest (2.60, 2023) for my HP EliteDesk 800 G2 Base Model Small Form Factor PC. I will now attempt to enable secure boot hoping it works. If not, I may have to try a custom key like you suggested. FYI, I have a GTX 1060 6gb turbo installed that I use a 6 pin for.

Thanks

I just updated bios and tried then got no post again. So then I tried to do a custom secure boot key but that also didn’t work. Is there any other solutions?

Greetings @IKPCBALL

Thanks for providing the HP PC product name and the graphics card you are using.

It looks like your HP PC is using an Intel 6th gen processor. And you are running W11.

Intel 6th gen CPUs don't support W11. And the latest HP BIOS, I could find, for your PC dates back to 2018.

The 1060 you are using is now End of Life having only Legacy driver support. I'm pretty sure there would be zero 1060 VBIOS updates available.

You will probably have some TPM 2.0 version attestation problems with certain games even if you could get Secure Boot working.

I'm sorry, but I can't think of any other workarounds to get the 1060 working when Secure Boot is enabled.

Maybe a different Forum member can assist.
