I have a flashed thumb drive that I want to boot off of.  I have tried many key presses and none of them work.  Esc is mentioned everywhere but that does not work for my envy all-in-one.  I have tried holding the FN key with it too as I read that might work with Envy's.  No dice.  I'm trying to install Linux and am stuck.  I just need to find a way to get to the menu to select the thumb drive to boot from.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @campyrsm52,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how  it must be to try multiple key combinations without success when you just want to boot from your USB drive.

On most HP Envy all‑in‑one systems, the Boot Menu is accessed by pressing Esc immediately after powering on, followed by F9 for Boot Device Options.

01.Power On and Tap Esc

HP desktops and all‑in‑ones typically use Esc to access startup options.

Turn off your PC completely

Press the power button

Immediately start tapping Esc repeatedly (not holding)

If successful, you’ll see the Startup Menu

02.Select Boot Device Options

Once in the Startup Menu, you can choose the boot source.

Press F9 when the Startup Menu appears

Look for your USB drive in the list

Highlight it with arrow keys

Press Enter to boot

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
