HP All in one24-df0117c
Microsoft Windows 11

HP All-in-One 24-df0117c Windows 11 update initiated an hp firmware/bios update. The update now repeatedly fails with " The system BIOS update failed. Unable to open BIOS image file". The computer cannot boot into Windows and returns to the BIOS update failure screen. BIOS/Sytem ID86F3, and the previous BIOS showed 86F3 vF.01. I created an HP BIOS recovery USB using the official HP86F3 BIOS package F.56 Rev. A (sp162969.exe), but Windows+B and Windows+V recovery, and the computer still returns to the same BIOS update failure. Please advise how to recover the BIOS.

Hi  @Latonya2373

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that your HP All-in-One 24-df0117c is currently stuck in the BIOS update process and displays the message "The system BIOS update failed. Unable to open BIOS image file." I appreciate the troubleshooting you've already performed, including creating the BIOS recovery USB and attempting the Windows + B and Windows + V recovery methods.

To better assist you, kindly help us with a few details:

  • Was the BIOS update initiated through Windows Update, HP Support Assistant, or manually?
  • Is the BIOS recovery USB detected when connected to the system?
  • Have you attempted using a different USB flash drive (preferably 16GB or smaller and formatted as FAT32)?

In the meantime, kindly try the following steps:

  1. Disconnect all external devices connected to the PC, including printers, USB drives, and docking devices.
  2. Turn off the computer completely.
  3. Connect only the keyboard, mouse, power adapter, and the BIOS recovery USB.
  4. Press and hold Windows + B, then press and hold the Power button for 2-3 seconds, release the Power button while continuing to hold Windows + B for another 20-30 seconds.
  5. If the BIOS Recovery screen does not appear, repeat the process using Windows + V.
  6. If available, recreate the BIOS recovery USB using a different USB flash drive and ensure it was created from the correct BIOS package for your model.
