I was given an hp pavilion all in one PC without a power supply cord or adapter. After hours of searching I find that I need a 120w ac adapter.

My question,

Do I indeed need a 120w adapter?

Does it have to be a genuine HP adapter?

I purchased a 120w adapter,  brand new, and when I tried to use it I still get the gods awful beeping when I turn it on. Could the beeping be a different error?

hi

  • Total wattage: 120 W
  • Output voltage: 19.5 V

https://partsurfer.hp.com/partsurfer?searchtext=V8Q83AA

Total wattage: 150W external power adapter (100V-240V)
Output voltage: 19.5V

is it one of the two here?

You must use the adapter, designed for the model
If the adapter is the correct one, it is possible that something else is the problem.

if necessary you will find the references here
but if possible have the computer tested by a professional
