Hi @mgbrundage,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you're having trouble accessing the startup menu on your HP Pavilion P7-1280t CTO Desktop PC after installing Norton antivirus software, it's possible that there may be an issue with your computer's boot process. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.
Hard Reset: Sometimes, performing a hard reset can resolve startup issues. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Turn off your computer.
b. Disconnect all external devices such as USB drives, printers, and external hard drives.
c. Unplug the power cable from your computer and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual power.
d. Reconnect the power cable and turn on your computer.
Boot in Safe Mode: If you suspect that Norton is causing the issue, you can try booting your computer in Safe Mode. To do this:
a. Turn off your computer.
b. Turn it on and repeatedly press the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears.
c. Select "Safe Mode" and press Enter.
d. Once in Safe Mode, you can uninstall Norton and then attempt a normal startup.
Use System Restore: If you have recently installed Norton and are experiencing issues, you can try using System Restore to revert your computer to a previous state before the installation. Here's how:
a. Turn off your computer.
b. Turn it on and repeatedly press the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears.
c. Select "Repair Your Computer" and follow the on-screen instructions to access System Restore.
d. Choose a restore point from a date before the Norton installation.
e. Follow the prompts to complete the restoration process.
Check for Hardware Issues: Sometimes, startup problems can be related to hardware issues. Ensure that all hardware components are securely connected, and there are no loose cables or components inside your computer.
Reset BIOS/UEFI Settings: If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting your computer's BIOS or UEFI settings to their default values. This may help if there are any misconfigured settings causing the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
