Hi @Veeviano,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error message "Boot device not found" typically means that your laptop cannot detect an operating system on the hard drive. This can be caused by several issues, including a loose connection, a corrupted operating system, or a failing hard drive. Here's what you can try to resolve the problem.

Check Boot Order in BIOS

  • Access BIOS/UEFI: When you power on the laptop, repeatedly press the Esc or F10 key (depending on your HP laptop model) to enter the BIOS setup.
  • Check Boot Order: Once in the BIOS, navigate to the "Boot" or "Boot Order" section. Ensure that your hard drive is listed as the first boot device.
  • Save Changes and Exit: After confirming or adjusting the boot order, save the changes and exit BIOS. Restart your laptop to see if it boots properly.

Check Hard Drive Connection

  • If you're comfortable opening the laptop, you can check whether the hard drive is securely connected. Sometimes, a loose connection can cause this error. Ensure the hard drive is properly seated in its slot.

Run HP Diagnostics

  • If you're unable to boot into Windows, you can run HP's built-in diagnostic tool to check the health of your hard drive.
  • To run diagnostics: Turn off the laptop, then press the Esc key while powering it on. Select F2 for system diagnostics and run the hard drive test.

Check for a Corrupted Operating System

  • If the hard drive is detected but no operating system is found, it may have become corrupted.
  • Reinstall the Operating System: You can try reinstalling the operating system using a bootable USB drive with Windows on it. You'll need another working computer to create the bootable drive.

Check Hard Drive Health

  • If your hard drive has failed, it may need to be replaced. You can check this by running diagnostics (as mentioned above) or using third-party tools if the system can boot from external media.

Perform System Recovery (if possible)

  • If your laptop has a recovery partition, you may be able to restore the system to factory settings. This option will erase all data, so use it as a last resort.
  • Access Recovery Partition: You can try pressing F11 during startup to enter the recovery options.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
