I’m locked out of my computer and it doesn’t recognize my password and it doesn’t allow me to reset.

@Louisetoo, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your HP desktop. Here are a few steps you can try to regain access:

Use the Password Hint: If you set up a password hint, it should appear after a failed login attempt. This might help you remember your password.

Use Another Administrator Account: If there are other administrator accounts on your computer, log in to one of them. You can then reset the password for the locked account via Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage Accounts.

Reset Password via Safe Mode: Restart your computer and press F8 (or Shift + F8) during boot-up to enter Advanced Boot Options. Choose Safe Mode with Command Prompt. When the Command Prompt opens, type:

  1. net user [username] [newpassword]

Replace [username] with your account name and [newpassword] with your new password.

Reset Your Microsoft Account Password: If you're using a Microsoft account, go to account.live.com/password/reset on another device and follow the instructions to reset your password.

System Restore: If none of the above methods work, you can try performing a system restore to a point where you remember the password. Restart your computer and press F11 to enter Recovery Mode. Navigate to Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > System Restore and select a restore point.

Reset Your PC: As a last resort, you can perform a system reset that will reinstall Windows. This will erase your files, so use it only if other methods fail. Restart your computer and press F11 to enter Recovery Mode. Go to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC, and follow the instructions.
