Desktop failed and recovery restart procedure would not resolve problem. HP sent me a flashdrive to use, but I can't find out how to select the proper boot option in the BIOS

Hi:
On most HP PC's you access the boot menu as follows...
Have the USB flash drive plugged into the PC's USB port.
Turn on or restart the PC.
Tap the ESC key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen to get the menu of options.
Select the F9 boot options menu, and from that, select the USB flash drive (it should show the name of the flash drive on the boot menu).
Then press the enter key.
If that doesn't work, go into the BIOS, enable legacy mode and disable secure boot, save the settings and then try booting from the legacy usb flash drive.
See this link for the BIOS settings to change...

Reply to Paul T, Advice worked as detailed. Unfortunetly Flash Drive provided by HP failed to install as it came up with an error message indicating that it was the wrong recovery system for this Windows 10 computer

I can't help you with why the HP-supplied recovery media didn't work, but you should be able to reinstall W10 for free as follows...
You can make a W10 USB flash drive installer with the Microsoft Media Creation Tool, using an 8 GB flash drive using another Windows PC, if your PC is not working.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
If you are asked to enter a product key during the installation process, select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.
Here are the steps to create the W10 USB flash drive installer...
Select Download tool now, and select Run.If you agree to the license terms, select Accept.
On the What do you want to do? page, select Create installation media for another PC, and then select Next.
Select the language, edition, and architecture (64-bit or 32-bit) for Windows 10. You want 64 bit.
Select which media you want to use:
USB flash drive. Plug in a blank USB flash drive with at least 8GB of space. Any content on the flash drive will be deleted.
After W10 installs, you can install the drivers and available software from your notebook's support page.
