Hi @Eharting
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
A solid yellow light on your HP slim desktop typically indicates a hardware issue. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:
Step 1: Power Reset
- Turn off the computer and disconnect all external devices (mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc.).
- Unplug the power cable from the computer.
- Press and hold the power button for about 15-20 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cable and external devices.
- Turn on the computer and check if it boots up.
Step 2: Check for Overheating
- Ensure that the computer is placed in a well-ventilated area.
- Verify that all cooling vents are unobstructed.
- If possible, open the side panel of the computer and check if the internal fans are running.
Step 3: Verify Hardware Connections
- Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cable.
- Open the side panel of the computer.
- Check all internal connections:
- Ensure that the RAM modules are securely inserted.
- Verify that the hard drive cables are connected properly.
- Make sure other internal cables are not loose or disconnected.
- Reconnect the side panel, plug in the power cable, and turn on the computer.
Step 4: Test RAM Modules
- Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cable.
- Open the side panel of the computer.
- Remove the RAM modules from the motherboard.
- Insert one RAM module at a time back into the slots, ensuring they are seated firmly.
- Reconnect the side panel, plug in the power cable, and turn on the computer to test each module individually.
Step 5: External Display Test
- Connect the computer to an external monitor using a compatible cable.
- Turn on the computer and check if there is any display.
