The POST screen is displayed for a ridiculously short time. I need to be able to read it.
How can I extend the display time?

Hi:
As I wrote yesterday, you go to the following location...
From the Advanced tab, Power on Options menu, set the Post Messages setting to Enabled.
You should not be seeing too many messages.
If you really want to slow the POST down, then change the Post Mode setting from QuickBoot to FullBoot
The post mode setting is the first setting on the Power-on Options screen.
Again, review the document I posted. It contains all of the BIOS settings menu and provides some explanations of what some of the settings do.
You must press the F10 key at the place you made the change, and again when you exit the BIOS.

No, I'm asking about the first thing to be displayed on the monitor screen after I switch the computer on or after I reboot it.
The screen displays options which may be selected before the boot is complete. Options which include access to the BIOS (or whatever it's called nowadays).
I have been lead to believe that screen is called the POST screen. I'm sure you will correct me if that's wrong.

That doesn't help.
In post #10 of that discussion it says that the appropriate key on an HP/Compaq is Escape. It doesn't work for me.
But why are you, an HP Expert, suggesting I look at other forums anyway?
Surely you, an HP Expert, should know the answer to my question?

Hi, @Syncopator :
Please refer to the F10 setup guide for your PC. Page 11.
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01527227
From the advanced tab, power on options menu, set the post messages setting to Enabled.
You must save the setting where you made the change, and again when you exit the BIOS.
Turning on or restarting the PC and tapping the F10 key at the beginning of the HP welcome screen, will get you into the BIOS setup menu.
We do not confer upon ourselves the title of Expert. HP does. Dragon-Fur was just trying to help.

Yes, the F10 key worked. It now remains for me to wade through the resulting screen/s to try to extend the display time.
Any ideas? Or does it depend on the particular flavour of the BIOS?

Thank you. That did what I want, but after a subsequent re-boot it reverted to peek-a-boo mode.
At least I now know how to access the BIOS.
The article is aimed at people with a far superior knowledge of the PC's innards than I have, but thank you again.

You're very welcome.
Doesn't changing the default quickboot setting to fullboot increase the POST time all the time?
If not, it may only show the full post operation from a cold boot (with the PC completely shut down).
I haven't really played around much with those settings, because I want that POST screen gone as soon as possible.
