After backing up and cloning my hard drive from an old system (HP ProOne 600 G1 All-in-One PC) which developed some sort of power issue as it was switching off after about 10 mins of use. I decided to bite the bullet and invest in a newer HP machine (HP EliteDesk 800 G6 Desktop Mini PC (8WY18AV) i7- 10th gen CPU).
Anyway after cloning my drive and 6 hours later, I put it into the new machine only to find that it doesn't recognise there is an operating system on the hard drive. After a bit of research, I learn that it needs to have some sort of Legacy Support at boot up or it doesn't recognise that the hard drive has a bootable operating system on it.
Just to confirm the hard drive is completely visible within the bios so there is no issue there.
Plus I ran the hard drive diagnostic just to be on the safe side and again passed with no fault found.
I have had to take my hard drive back out and put it into an old Lenovo desktop pc (M91p) that I had lying around just so I have a temporary system and it boots up absolutely fine.
If you can let me know what I need to do to get this system to boot up or is it a case that this machine just can't do it for whatever reason?
Thanks
Ben

Hi, Ben:
It looks like the drive you want to install in your new PC will work.
Below is the link to the service manual for your PC.
Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)
Take a look at chapter 6, page 71. Configure Legacy support and secure boot.
If the drive you want to install is formatted MBR which is legacy, you need to make a change in the BIOS.
The default setting according to the manual is Legacy Support Disable and Secure Boot Disable.
You need to change and save the setting to: Legacy Support Enable and Secure Boot Disable
Then you should be able to use the drive in your new PC.

Thanks for your reply.
And in essence it sounds all good but unfortunately the "Secure Boot Conƭguration" doesn't display any "Support and Secure Boot Legacy" options within the bios.
Here is a screenshot from the internet that is pretty much identical to what I'm able to see on my bios.
As you can see there are just no options for legacy support in this part of the bios and I've not come across anywhere else in the bios that deals with legacy support.

You're very welcome.
I guess that the manual is incorrect, and you won't be able to use the drive in your PC.
I can only go by the manuals HP has linked to your PC's support page, since I don't have an 800 G6 mini.

It will have to be GPT-formatted.
There are programs you can buy that supposedly can convert the disk from MBR to GPT without losing data, but I have never tried them.
This is one for example.
