I am currently running a Prodesk 400 G4 Mini with the latest bios (02.21.00 Rev.A) and I have an SYBA SY-ENC50104 4-bay USB SATA enclosure with two HGST Ultrastar 6TB HUS726060ALN610 4KN AF Hard Drives attached. The problem is that when I perform a reboot (this happens in Linux and Windows) the system will hang at the HP bios logo and will not continue to boot.
If I choose the bios option to not allow USB removable hard drives then the system has no problem rebooting but I will run into issues as I have to automount setup for the hard drives in the enclosure. Even without automount in play, I would physically need to disconnect and reconnect the USB cable once in userland after the OS boots.
I have tried reverting the bios as far back as the system will allow (2.14) and this issue still occurs. The system has no problem with the drive attached when cold-booting. The issue is only on this HP device since I've attached this to a Dell Optiplex 3060 micro and a Dell Wyse 5070 thin client and reboot works as expected with the USB enclosure attached.
Lastly, I noticed that on a cold boot, the bios will correctly show the SYBA SY-ENC50104 name as one of the boot options. But on a reboot, it shows my main hard drive, and the following entry where SYBA SY-ENC50104 should be shows up as 'USB:'
Does anyone know how to address this issue? I've been googling around and it seems like this might be a common issue with HP bios.
