Hello all.  This is quite frustrating 😤.  My laptop was sitting on my table CLOSED.  A glass of wine was knocked over. I think that a small amount may have gone over the side of screen and trickled to keys on the left side.  The screen is black and reads HP PC HARDWARE DIAGNOSTIC UEFI.  I'm giving options processor, memory test, storage test, power test, system board test, keyboard test. What should I do from here?

Hi @LearnerGirl,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP laptop now shows a black screen and boots into HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI after a possible liquid spill near the keyboard. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this and what to do next.

Power the laptop off immediately

Select Exit in the diagnostics menu and shut the laptop down if possible.

If it doesn’t exit, hold the Power button for 10–15 seconds to turn it off.

Do not try to keep testing while liquid damage is possible.

Disconnect all power sources

Unplug the charger from the laptop.

If the battery is removable, remove it.

This prevents further electrical damage.

Do not attempt to turn it back on yet

Liquid can cause short circuits even after it looks dry.

Turning it on repeatedly can worsen internal damage.

Allow the laptop to dry thoroughly

Place the laptop upside down in a tent position (keyboard facing down).

Leave it powered off for at least 24–48 hours in a dry, well-ventilated area.

Do not use a hair dryer or direct heat.

After drying, run basic diagnostics only

Power the laptop on and press F2 to open HP Diagnostics.

Run Memory Test and Storage Test only.

If either test fails, it indicates internal damage affecting startup.

Check if Windows starts normally

If diagnostics pass, exit and allow the system to reboot.

If it still returns to diagnostics or the screen remains black, Windows may not be loading due to hardware or keyboard damage.

Avoid keyboard use if keys were exposed

Liquid on the keyboard can trigger false inputs that interrupt boot.

If possible, connect an external USB keyboard for testing.

I hope this helps.
